Cursor Interactivity-Revised
Cursor Interactivity_Extending beyond the photograph frame.
[Flash Animation] Development- Interactive Animation-PanTest
A short test experimenting expanding beyond the frame by replicating “pan” effect.
[Flash Animation] Development- Interactive Animation 03
After producing a series of tests and familiarizing myself with flash I produced a short animation, the first of its series using interactivity through the combination of symbols, buttons and motion tweens.
Although the idea is still at its infancy It is my desire to produce a small interactive animation testing the notion of memory and negative aura. The short piece of writing submitted to explain the meaning of the collective set of photographs that make the backbone of the animation will be an interactive portal where users may be able to expand text to a readable size. This in turn will act as button to activate an animation or still photograph associated to the meaning of the specific word chosen-A sort of visual dictionary.
Although I feel that this idea will be a great exercise it is by no means a finalized concept. Please go ahead and engage with the short animation (by moving your cursor within the space above)-there is a hidden button that will activate a short image, see if you can find it and enjoy!
[Flash Animation] Development- Interactive Animation Test02
Just expanding on the previous animation by adding an extra scene, a beam of light is revealed once the cursor hovers above a certain point (as the image becomes completely dark). Once such button is clicked it activates a short glimpse of the image in its original state. Decay is animated on the background surface by very subtle moments leading to a button reveling itself through short flashes. I am certain that the button should create a link to the exploration of another image. Ideally I would like a small set of particles following the cursor movement and slowly revealing an image. This will call upon the use of masks to reveal an image and its the next point of exploration.
Please engage with the short animation and watch out for the decay.

[Flash Animation] Development- Simple Interactive Animation
This is a simple interactive excercise using ‘buttons’. Please engage with the the short animation (by moving your cursor within the space above)and find a single button that will give glimpses of the photograph in its original state on mouse click.

Learning Flash-using symbols and ‘Motion Tween’
After producing small test scene to discover the implications of animating light effects using different images per frame I decided to use a motion tween to discover the differences.
Using motion tween and converting images to symbols yield a much suttle animation thus a better result. The simplicity of this short animation is achieved by converting the image into a graphic symbol with and adding a tint effect. Motion tween is then applied for smooth transitioning between frames.

Without using ‘Motion Tween’-Test Run 02
This is my second test run using flash after my first tutorial. Using images from a photography workshop I am playing with light and shadow effects.
This particular short movie shows the image getting darker.
I am aiming for a far more realistic effect were light filtrates the room thus making it lighter. At the moment the transition is not as smooth as I had hoped, it is due to the fact that ’motion tween’ tool was not used. I choose not to use a motion tweenintentionally to discover the differences between an animation done per frame, step by step and by applying a motion tween.

This short project was led by Mr. Dirk Lellau who I thank for his orientation and additional time spent during the seminar guiding me through the project. Also I must thank Dirk for arranging a group of high profile photographers and critics including Helen Binet, one of the most passionate and inspiring photographers to come and share their thoughts on our project. The seminar aimed at the exploration of the photographic image in relation to the representation and creation of space. The brief required to focus on ‘weather’ as a personal definition within an urban realm restricted to the boundaries of our University campus. I took the opportunity of the seminar to make a statement in regards the relation of the nature of the photograph to my personal experience and understanding of the space. My project, “Negative Aura” is a statement of how weather can have psychological influence on the individual. Portraying my perception of weather (Trapped in a melancholic state) I searched for how moments of negativity manifested itself on our surfaces and how a moment of happiness represented by light as a metaphor can change our perception of space. Below is an explanation which can best describe my perception of weather in relation to the chosen photographs I exhibited as a result of the seminar.
Negative Aura
Childhood memories of growing up under warm rays of light, a cool breeze at night caresses palm trees abundant in foliage composing theatrical leaf movements brushing against each other serenading the night. This is no more, air is space. Twisted moiré skies rule the atmosphere accompanied by ephemeral states of negativity from desperation to depression generating negative aura infesting the air and manifesting itself by scratching on our very surfaces. Grey skies, no warmth, trapped in a melancholic state as if a vortex of negativity is about to consume me I search for a diminutive ray of light to shine upon me, to save me. Incarcerated by negative aura, I want to get out.
